Mushroom Straw Mulch
Organic Mulch for Moisture Retention, Soil Health & Regenerative Gardening
Our Mushroom Straw Mulch is a biologically active mulch made from spent mushroom substrate sourced from local oyster mushroom growers here in Northern Colorado. Rich in organic matter and fungal biology, this mulch helps protect soil, retain moisture, regulate temperature, and slowly feed the soil food web as it breaks down.
Unlike conventional dyed mulches, Mushroom Straw Mulch is designed to support healthy soil ecosystems while giving agricultural byproducts a second life.
Perfect for:
Vegetable gardens
Raised beds
Trees & shrubs
Pathways & landscapes
Regenerative farms & homesteads
Living soil systems
Benefits
Helps retain soil moisture
Reduces evaporation & temperature swings
Adds organic matter over time
Encourages fungal activity in soil
Helps suppress weeds naturally
Recycles local agricultural waste streams
Built for Northern Colorado Gardens
Northern Colorado’s dry climate, intense sun, and clay-heavy soils can make moisture retention a challenge. Our Mushroom Straw Mulch helps protect soil from drying out while improving organic matter and biological activity over time.
We work with gardeners, landscapers, farms, and regenerative growers across Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Longmont, Boulder, Denver, and the greater Front Range looking for natural mulch alternatives that support long-term soil health.
What Makes It Different?
This mulch is made from spent oyster mushroom straw substrate that has already undergone fungal decomposition. The result is a softer, partially broken-down mulch material that integrates naturally into soil systems over time.
We’re also experimenting with blends that incorporate crushed sawdust-based mushroom blocks mixed with wood chips to create a more fungal-forward mulch with improved texture, longevity, and moisture-holding capacity.
Every batch helps divert agricultural and food-production waste from the landfill while creating a useful product for gardens and landscapes.
How to Use
Apply 2–4 inches around plants, garden beds, trees, or pathways to help conserve moisture and protect soil biology. Reapply as material naturally decomposes.
Healthy soil starts from the surface down.
