What is Hugelkultur?

A method of building garden beds using wood as a base layer, which slowly decomposes and feeds the soil over time.

If you are building a raised bed from scratch, this is one of the most effective and cost-efficient approaches that sets your garden up to keep up in the long term.

  • Feeds soil biology long term.

  • Reduces how much soil you need to buy up front.

SIMPLE LAYERING APPROACH:

  1. Base layer: logs, branches, woody debris, and other bulk browns.

  2. Middle layer: bulk greens, organic material, and compost buffer.

  3. Top layer: living soil mix (your growing zone)
